Huron is a city in Fresno County, California, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 6,306.

The Huron Police Department serves the Huron community with law enforcement protection 24 hours a day. The dispatch center handles all routine business and all emergency 911 calls for the City of Huron and all of Beadle County, as well as 911 services for Hand, Jerauld, and Kingsbury Counties. Following are other programs provided to the community by the Huron Police Department:

§ Child Seat Program. The Huron Police Department provides child safety seats free of charge to parents who have infants and/or young children under the age of five. The infant seats and child safety seats are provided through a federal grant. If you are in need of a child safety seat please contact the Huron Police Department.

§ Citizens Police Academy. The Huron Police Department offers a Citizens Police Academy to the public twice a year. The academy consists of an interactive, hands-on eight week session where members of the community learn about the functions of police work. Some of the topics covered are firearms training, baton training, accident investigation, report writing, courtroom testimony, plus many more. § Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers is a community wide program where people can leave information about criminal activity. Callers can remain anonymous if they choose to. If the information that is provided leads to an arrest and conviction, a reward for the information can be offered. To report criminal activity, please contact Crime Stoppers at 353-8555.

§ DARE Program – Drug Abuse Resistance Education. The Huron Police Department teaches it’s DARE Program to all 5th grade students in the public school system and St. Martin’s Catholic School. The program consists of 10 weeks of classroom instruction and a graduation ceremony.

§ Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Programs. Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Programs are offered every fall and spring to elementary children in the public school system.

§ Safety City Program. The Safety City Program is sponsored by the American Legion and is held every summer. The program is designed to teach vehicle and pedestrian safety to preschool children.

§ School Resource Officer. The Huron Police Department provides a uniformed officer who acts as the School Resource Officer for the school system. His office is located at the Huron High School. He is the liaison between law enforcement and the youth in the community. He speaks in the classrooms upon request, and patrols all school grounds.
